Nickie discussed leasehold reform with long-time leasehold campaigner, Harry Scoffin

Leasehold tenure is out of date and is in need of widespread reform.

Every week, Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, hears from local people who are literally being held to ransom by the freehold of their building. Often they are asked to pay for huge bills they are unable to secure answers about.

It’s not just privately owned flats, lessees in former social housing also feel frustrated with the lack of transparency in major works contracts. That’s why Nickie supports Michael Gove MP’s ambitions to reform leaseholds and give leaseholders the freedoms they need.

Nickie also took the opportunity to sit down with Harry Scoffin, long-time leasehold campaigner and Director of Commonhold Now, to discuss the upcoming Leasehold Reform Bill set for the King’s Speech on 7th November.

They discussed the key issues affecting leaseholders both across the country and in the Two Cities in particular, and which need to be addressed in the forthcoming Bill. As we approach the King’s speech, Nickie will continue to work with local people to ensure future legislation is shaped by your views and experiences.

If you are a leaseholder yourself or have any concerns about the system, please write to Nickie about your experience.
