Two Cities MP, Nickie Aiken highlighted the need for theatres to re-open on the 19th July.

The Cities of London & Westminster is home to world-renowned Theatreland. Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre suggest theatres will only return to 67% of 2019 levels this year, with most of the return coming after the Stage Four unlocking.

Nickie is proud to support theatres across the Two Cities and work with Nigel Huddleston MP to make the case for theatres to re-open on the 19th July.

In the Chamber, Nickie said,

"Thank you Mr Speaker. I'm extremely proud that my constituency is home to world-renowned Theatre Land in the West End. Sadly, the latest figures from The Society of London Theatre and UK Theatres suggest that this year theatres will return to only 67% of 2019 levels. And 66% of that is planned for stage four. "Whilst the theatre sector is keen to provide as much data as possible to prove their environments are safe, can my Honourable Friend confirm that the reopening of theatres at stage four will not be delayed to analyse data from the Events Research Programme?"

Nigel Huddleston MP, Minister for Tourism, Sport & Commonwealth Games replied,

"You'll be seeing the cities and an appeal for people to visit the cities and spend money and time in cities as part of the Escape The Everyday campaign. We'll be releasing further information in due course and I'll be happy to have a follow-up conversation with the Honourable Lady."
