Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, released the following statement in response to what will be a paralysis of London and the country with the announcement of tube and rail strikes for the 21, 23 and 25 June.
The rail strike will cause stress and concern for so many people, young and old. I doubt the RMT cares less about those sitting GCSEs and A’Levels and may now not be able to get to school or college.
Haven’t our children’s education suffered enough over the last two years?
I hope the Government will take a hardline on these strikers and that the Department for Education has plans in place to support any pupil who cannot get to school to sit an exam because of this selfish strike.
The more I think about the real-life consequences for people affected by the proposed rail strikes the angrier I get.
My great grandfather, a proud RMT official would turn in his grave if he knew what his comrades were proposing.
It’s the very worse form of industrial relations or blackmail as I prefer to call it. I’ve asked Nadhim Zahawi MP, Secretary of State for Education, for clarification from the Department for Education as to how schools and exam boards should be supporting students sitting exams during the strikes.
