Member of Parliament for the Cities of London and Westminster, Nickie Aiken, shared the following message on World Mental Health Day.

"On World Mental Health Day, I think this is an excellent opportunity to really talk about mental health, about the symptoms, the conditions, and as ourselves, as individuals, how we feel, whether we suffer from anxiety or depression.

"We've come so far as a country to understand the real effects that mental health can have on us as people and on our friends and families.

"As a mum of two teenagers, I know that there can be so many anxieties for people growing up. I've got friends whose children have gone through eating disorders and self-harm, and it's so important to get the advice and the help and the support that is out there.

"So today on World Mental Health Day, do take time for yourself and also speak to your family and friends if you are feeling down or if you suspect that they are feeling down themselves, and let's work together, be kind to each other and be kind to ourselves."

No one is alone. Help and support is out there including from incredible organisations like Mind and Samaritans.
