Nickie donating plastic bags

During a visit to the Square Mile Food Bank, in the City of London, the volunteers mentioned to Nickie that they were running out of bags to use when undertaking their deliveries. This struck a chord. Nickie had collected a huge number during lockdown and wanted to find a good home to them. She certainly wasn’t going to throw them away!

Nickie arranged to pop back with her bags which she was more than delighted to donate. The Food Bank is now desperate for more donations of bags as their usual supply has now dried up.

If you have any bags you can donate please do consider giving them to the Square Mile Food Bank. It’s a great way to support our most vulnerable during this difficult time and recycle at the same time.

The Food Bank is run by local volunteers in association with Age UK City of London. It was set up to help support their neighbours, particularly those who have to shield during the crisis, with food, household supplies and personal hygiene items.

Volunteers deliver supplies each week to those that need them. The supplies are donated by local people and shops including local branches M&S, Tesco and Waitrose.

If you would like to donate, there are collection boxes outside the following locations:

  • Lauderdale Tower: Mon, Wed & Fri between 10:00am - 11:00am
  • Golden Lane Community Centre: Tues-Thurs 11:00am-5:00pm
  • Speed House car park (by CPA): Mon & Wed 11:00am -6:30pm

The food bank also accepts financial donations. Click here to reach their Go Fund Me page.

They are also always on the lookout for new volunteers. To find out more email: [email protected]
