Cities of London & Westminster MP, Nickie Aiken, joined Tim Mitchell, Councillor for St James's ward, for a walkabout on Tothill Street with members of the Queen Anne’s Gate Residents’ Association and representatives of Westminster Harris Sixth Form and the Conrad London St. James Hotel to discuss concerns about coach idling in this part of Westminster.

Coach idling has been an ongoing concern for people living, working, visiting or attending school in Tothill Street. Not only does it lead to persistent issues with congestion on what is a very busy road, but it also causes significant levels of traffic pollution, which Westminster Harris Sixth Form is particularly impacted by as one of the coach parking bays is currently located directly outside its air vents.

As Leader of Westminster City Council, Nickie spearheaded the Don't Be Idle campaign, encouraging drivers to turn their engines off when idling as part of efforts to clean up our air. Nickie encourages the council to relaunch this successful campaign and take further steps through a consultation with local people, to tackle the issue.
