On the final day of the Commons debate on the Autumn Statement, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, spoke out and welcomed the Statement which will drive economic growth and strengthen our economy.

With National Insurance tax cuts saving the average worker £450 a year, tax cuts for the self-employed, the biggest business tax cut in modern history, measures to support people into work, a boost to the local housing allowance, pension reforms, and action to protect our communities, Nickie is clear the Autumn Statement will make a huge difference to local people and businesses across the Two Cities.

Plus £5 million of Government funding was announced for the Fleming Centre, a pioneering centre to be based at St Mary’s leading the global effort to fight antimicrobial resistance.

The Chancellor also continued support for our retail, hospitality and leisure businesses, extending the 75% business rates discount, and Nickie will continue to make the case for the reintroduction of tax-free shopping to encourage international visitors to London and spending in our neighbourhoods.

Nickie looks forward to working with the Chancellor to ensure that the economy continues to bounce back from the pandemic and flourish for years to come.
