In the House of Commons, Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster spoke out against the appalling act of trophy hunting in a Private Members’ Bill brought forward by my colleague, Henry Smith MP. It’s a ‘sport’ that should be consigned to history.
Trophy hunting involves the killing of an animal for “sport” or “pleasure” in order to display part or all of its body as a trophy. It’s cruel and harmful.
Nickie is appalled whenever she sees someone smiling gleefully next to their defenceless prey on their social media and she is at a loss as to why anyone would find enjoyment from shooting magnificent animals such as rhinos, elephants and lions.
This is not something that is defined to one continent. Around the world, we have seen examples where the environment and wildlife are sacrificed as governments have not provided incentives to local people to work with nature.
In the House of Commons, Nickie was pleased to make the case to encourage Governments to work with their communities to embrace their animal neighbours, and ensure their long-term survival.
