Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, is proud that the Two Cities is home to the headquarters of Channel 4 and warmly welcomes the news that they will no longer be privatised.

Over the last few months, Nickie has been making the case to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Michelle Donelan MP, alongside colleagues to invest in this brilliant television company.

During a debate on this issue in Parliament last week, she took the opportunity to champion Channel 4 and its dynamic array of television.

Nickie also made the case that Channel 4 is so special because it is a levelling-up company. The channel provides jobs and supports jobs and production companies across the four nations. Their announcement to double investment in skills, and double the number of jobs outside London will ensure it continues to remain at the front of British television.

In the House of Commons, Nickie said,

"I welcome the decision by the Government not to privatise Channel 4, and I thank my right hon. Friend for her time to discuss the matter with me. I am very proud that Channel 4’s headquarters are in my constituency. Does she agree that what makes Channel 4 so special is that it is a levelling-up company that supports jobs and production companies across the four nations? It is so important that we continue to support Channel 4 and ensure that it can sustain its business model."

Secretary of State, Michelle Donelan MP, replied,

"I know that my hon. Friend has been vocal on this topic. It is absolutely essential that we support Channel 4 in its levelling-up agenda. That is why I am particularly delighted that it is doubling its investment in skills and doubling the number of jobs outside London while retaining its footprint in the capital."
