World Book Day

World Book Day is an annual celebration encouraging our children and young people to pick up a book, dress up as their favourite character and celebrate the joy of reading.

Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, believes it is so important for our young people to finish school with the reading and writing skills they need for life, so she was delighted to hold a Short Story Competition with Year 5 at St Peter’s Eaton Square Primary School.

Tasked with writing a creative and imaginative story, the year group did not disappoint!

From stories about magical, mystical creatures, to eye-opening perspectives on social issues, and tales of joy and adventures, Nickie loved reading every single one.

Nickie commented that it was incredibly challenging to pick the most creative story, but after great consideration, she was pleased to visit the school and join Mrs Jane Carrington, Headteacher, and Mrs Taljeet Sidhu-Pepper, Deputy Headteacher, to announce the winners.

Congratulations to Giulia and Theadora for winning my competition and to Clementine and Sophie for being runners-up! All four received a special World Book Day token and chose a book.

It’s never too late to get into reading. No matter our age, we are fortunate to have so many brilliant libraries across the Two Cities. Why not pop into your local library and discover your reading superpower today?
