Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, joined forces with Greg Hands, Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham, as they launched their bid to give bus route 11, London's iconic bus route, UNESCO world heritage status.

Commenting on the bid, Greg said,

"I'm here with Nickie Aiken, back on the number 11 bus today, our campaign to save the 11 bus from the Mayor's axe. Today, we're launching a bid to have this bus route listed as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. It’s been part of London's heritage for more than 100 years. It connects all of the best sights of London, starting at Fulham Broadway, going through King's Road, Parliament Square, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, the Bank of England, St Paul's Cathedral and onto Liverpool Street.

"Nickie and I have met people on the bus today who've come from across the UK, across the world to use this bus. It’s recommended by Visit London and recommended by Lonely Planet guide as one of the best ways of seeing London. So that's what it's all about, a UNESCO World Heritage bid."

Nickie added,

"And Mayor Khan plans to cut this bus on the 29th of April so we don't have long. The week of the Coronation, this bus will disappear. It is absolutely ridiculous. And we know from the thousands of you who signed our petition to save the number 11 bus that you agree. So we do hope that this bid to UNESCO will be successful and we hope that the Mayor today will give the number 11 bus a stay of execution so we can see if our bid is successful.

"It is ridiculous to lose this iconic number 11 bus that connects the Two Cities from Liverpool Street all the way through to Westminster and then onto Chelsea and Fulham. We know so many people locally and internationally love this bus, so please continue to support us and save the number 11 bus."
