The flag of the State of Israel

Following the terrorist attack by Hamas on the State of Israel, Cities of London & Westminster MP Nickie Aiken has today written to the Leader of the Council Adam Hug calling for clear reassurance to be given to all communities in our City. Read her letter below.

Dear Adam,
I am sure you share my condemnation of the terrorist attack by Hamas on the State of Israel.

I have been contacted by constituents over the weekend who are concerned about any possible fallout from the attack that may lead to security issues in the streets of Westminster.

We have a small but strong Jewish community in our city, and I am sure you agree with me that it is important that we provide them with the reassurance they may need at this time.

I spoke to the Metropolitan Police Service's Police Command over the weekend and was assured that we would see a larger police presence in specific areas and contact made with Jewish community leaders. I am surprised that Westminster City Council has not made any public communication to offer reassurance to all
communities but specifically to the Jewish community. Neighbourhoods like Marylebone and St John's Wood are home to many of our Jewish residents, and I know many are very concerned at this moment.

Could you please advise me on what discussions the council has had with the MPS on this matter and assure me that you've agreed on joint plans to provide the necessary community reassurance?

I would be grateful if you could assure me that the council has plans in place to provide community reassurance for all communities, and specifically our Jewish community.

I am proud of the community cohesion that exists in Westminster which has remained strong even in some very dark times. With the council's leadership, I am sure that will continue.

Yours,

Nickie Aiken MP
