Cities of London & Westminster MP, Nickie Aiken, welcomes new short-term lets rules to protect communities and keep homes available.

Following her long campaign, the Government has confirmed the implementation of a short-term lets register, enabling local authorities to know where short-let properties are and allowing them to take action as soon as issues arise. Find out more here.

Commenting, Nickie said,

"Great news from the Government this morning. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities has confirmed that it is ensuring that there will be a register introduced for short-term let accommodation. That means anybody who wants to use AirBnB or any other platform has to register their property so that local authorities know where these properties are so they can enforce if there are problems with noise, anti-social behaviour, and rubbish dumping.

"Thank you so much for everybody who supported my campaign to secure this registration scheme. It's so important that we do protect our neighbourhoods. Also, the Government is announcing it's extending the 90 night rule that we have in London, which means you can rent out your home for 90 nights before having to apply for planning permission. That is going to be extended for new short-term let properties across England.

"Another victory for us. Thank you so much for supporting the campaign."
