MP for the Two Cities, Nickie Aiken is committed to cleaning up air quality across the Cities of London & Westminster.

The UK will host COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, later this year in Glasgow. Nickie believes this will be a key opportunity for the UK to become a global leader in promoting cleaner and greener urban environments.

Nickie welcomed the response from Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, the Minister for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, that the UK is taking action to tackle air pollution, including a £3.8 billion plan to invest in green transport.

Nickie said,

"Cleaning up our air, both here and across the globe is a major challenge for all of us. The conversations I'm having with local people and businesses in the Cities of London and Westminster, make it clear that we have a key opportunity at COP26 for the UK to become a global leader in promoting cleaner, greener, urban environments.

"With this in mind, can my Right Honourable Friend confirm that he will do all he can to accelerate action to tackle urban air pollution through collaboration between government, businesses, and civil society?"

Minister for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP replied,

"The UK is already leading the way on tackling air pollution. Government is backing a £3.8 billion plan to clean up transport and tackle air pollution, investing in green transport and working with local authorities, just like City of Westminster.

My Honourable Friend will be keen to read the Transport Decarbonisation Plan, which is been published later today, which will set up a world first Green Print for decarbonised transport and clean air."
