Nickie Aiken, MP for the Cities of London & Westminster today welcomed plans for Health & Social Care as the UK Builds Back Better.

As a daughter of a dad who lives with Alzheimer’s, Nickie knows first hand what it is like, and how important it is to tackle social care in a fair way. It’s a difficult issue and she is pleased it's being grasped.

During the Prime Minister's announcement, Nickie pressed to ensure the money raised goes to local authorities who are doing incredible work, as well as the NHS.

Welcoming the Plan, Nickie said,

"During Summer Recess, I spent a week looking after my father, who has advanced Alzheimer's as my mother had a respite holiday, and I pay tribute to all those who look after their loved ones in similar circumstances and those who work in the care service.

"I certainly welcome the Prime Minister's statement today. Can I seek assurances that through the Health and Social Care Levy that money raised will go to fund local authorities who do so much brilliant work in this area, as well as the NHS?"

Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, responded,

"My Honourable Friend asks, I think, the question that everybody wants to be certain of, and absolutely we will. This is a legally hypothecated Levy, and we will ensure that the sums that are fixed for social care go to social care and make sure that we deal with the problem of the catastrophic cost, because this will not be dispensed by the, by the, NHS. This will be dispensed by The Treasury in the normal course of government spending."
