MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, joined Portsoken ward councillor, Munsur Ali, on a visit to Mansell Street with Transport for London to discuss the new emergency cycle lane.

Speaking to local people and local councillors Munsur Ali, John Fletcher and Jason Pritchard, Nickie has heard about the issues the new cycle lane has caused.

Its taken away parking spaces, increased congestion and there's a growing concern around the pollution it is causing.

A year after TfL put the cycle lane in place, they have only just opened their consultation. It's unacceptable that they have failed to listen to local people and councillors thus far. Nickie is working with local people and councillors to ensure they are listened to and TfL change their plans. Respond to the consultation.

Speaking, Nickie said,

"I'm here with Councilman Munsur Ali from Portsoken ward. We've been meeting with TfL today to discuss the new emergency cycle lane. There's real concerns from Munsur and John Fletcher and Jason Pritchard and other councilmen and residents about congestion. Munsur tell us what's happening."

Responding, Portsoken ward Councillor, Munsur Ali, said,

"Well, we've had this emergency cycle lane which in principle, I support cycling but the residents have not been consulted at any stage in planning and they've actually had the cycle lane, it has been out for a year already. So my residents have no access to parking, it has built up a lot more congestion so there's issues of pollution and noise as well. And as I say, still now to this day, we have had no consultation with the residents. And that's just not acceptable."

Nickie added,

"It's really unacceptable. We're working together to ensure that TfL do listen to the people of Portsoken and change their plans."
