MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, Nickie Aiken, welcomed the statement from Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, on the Government's new plan to protect leaseholders and make industry pay for the cladding crisis.

Following the statement, Nickie said,

"I'm in Parliament, and I have been listening to Michael Gove make his statement on Fire Safety.

"Many of you will be aware that I have spoken in the Commons on this subject many times and have met with Ministers to really plead the case that leaseholders are not burdened with paying for fire safety measures in their tower blocks, particularly those above eleven metres.

"And I'm delighted that Michael Gove has announced today a major step forward and that developers are going to be held to account now. They are going to be made to pay for all the remedial work on cladding and other fire safety measures.

"Amendments will be brought in for the Building Fire Safety Bill that we passed last year.

"And the dreaded EWS, the External Wall System forms are being scrapped, which I know have been a major burden for those owners trying to sell their flats.

"So I absolutely welcome this major news today. It is the property owners, the developers who will now pay, not the leaseholders."
